Alleged refusal to honour a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between two oil-producing towns in Bayelsa and the Italian oil conglomerate, AGIP OIL is breeding fresh crisis in the region, DailyGlobeWatch exclusively gathered.
This has resulted in a threat by the Ijaw Youths to shut down AGIP Oil operations in the area.
The threat was made by Ogboinbiri and Azuzuama leaders while on a protest march over the weekend to see President of Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, Eric Omare.
Speaking with the President IYC Worldwide, the protesters led by the duo of Tari Okoso and Walter Job-Molo said: “We have been pushed to the wall and we have issued an ultimatum to shut down Agip operations in the communities by asking Agip workers to leave.”

Part of their complaints was oil spillage which has caused an irreparable damage to the region's eco-system, persistent military harassment and the mismanagement of a MoU by Agip in Ogboinbiri community led to the death of more than 67 persons including security personnel.
While responding, Omare called on Agip Oil to respect and comply with the MoU it signed with the host community in order to douse tension and pave way for peace.
Omare also called on the Federal and State Government to prevail on AGIP to respect the MoU in order to avoid a violent shut down of operations with grave security and economic implications.
